Hello and welcome to yet another written post on here!
Today I am going to go further into what I think makes a good website. Besides providing you with some facts (supported by Jakob Nielsen's Usability Principles) I will also give you some websites/ blogs that I personally really enjoy looking at.
-
#1 Consistency & Standards
This principle basically states that certain elements are expected to be at a certain spot. When visiting a website people don't want to spend 10 minutes learning how to navigate it and what certain buttons will do.
Instead, they want to be able to find the menu and a search bar at a glance. Most websites as well as blogs do this nowadays (Nielsen, 1994).

#2 Aesthetic & minimalist design
This might be one of the most important principles for every type of website that is out there. Only provide necessary information and make a website look elegant by not using too many colours. Try to stick to basic and toned down colours as a base.
The more information you provide on a website the more confusing it gets for your readers/ customers (Nielsen, 1994).

Bad example: pnwx.com
Way too many colours are used and having all the information just as text makes it very confusing.

White as a base colour makes the navigation really easy. The big moving picture draws the attention onto the sold product and makes the content clear.

#3 Mobile-friendly website
Websites are usually created on a bigger screen but mostly looked at on a smartphone. With people being as busy as ever and constantly on the go, they want to be able to get all the information whenever, wherever and on whatever device they want.
So it is absolutely crucial to have a websites that looks good on every device.
-
#4 Quick loading times
You probably know this yourself: If you open up a website and it doesn't seem to load in even just seconds, you will probably leave it right away. So absolutely make sure this doesn't happen to your website.
-
And now as a bonus here are some websites and blogs that I personally enjoy:
apple.com - I really like their interactive design and the clear structure.
hellopippa.com - She's an Austrian blogger. I really enjoy her colour scheme and the topics that she talks about (recipes, nature, yoga, sustainability). (German)
flyingsparks.de - This is actually my own blog that I started with my sister. (German)
feineseele.de - A blog about mindfulness and positivity. I personally feel really relaxed looking at her blog. (German)
